CurriculumCommunication, Language and Literacy In both small and large groups children are encouraged to extend their vocabulary and fluency by talking and listening, by hearing and responding to stories, poems, songs and rhymes. Personal, Social and Emotional Development We support children in developing their self-confidence, by encouraging them to play and co-operate with other children and to be able to achieve in a group beyond the family. Mathematical Development Through adult-supported activities children become familiar with sorting, matching, ordering, sequencing and counting, activities which form a basis for early mathematics. Materials relating to maths are always available during free play activities and numbers feature greatly in and around the Giraffe play areas all through the day. Knowledge and Understanding of the World Children are encouraged to develop their knowledge and understanding of their environment, other people, and features of the natural and man-made world through books, posters, activities and hands-on experience with a range of natural and manufactured materials.
