Southampton Nursery

Penguin Playroom - for children aged 17 to 24 months

These two spacious yet cosy play rooms situated are on the ground floor of the main house, allowing for ease of access to the garden and patio now that these little children are so much more mobile and practicing their independence.

The minimum staff ratio is one adult to three children.

The room manager Lynette has managed this room with her dedicated team for the last 7 years, providing care and cuddles whilst having a great understanding of these developing little people and their parents.

Here the children's day is slightly more structured than the tiny babies, due to growing communication skills and mobility. The children are now expected sit at the tables all together for meals and some activities.

Many opportunities are given throughout the day for the children to choose their own activities and toys.  Outside play is also very important and the children are wrapped up against the elements in the winter and covered in sun cream and hats in the summer to ensure that they can get outside at least once a day.

Cuddles remain a very important part of the day as well as messy activities, music, dancing and stories all of which encourage the children’s rapid grasp of the spoken word.

The Early Years Foundation Stage guidelines are adhered to within the Penguin room, as in the rest of the Nursery, ensuring that all areas of development, learning and care are monitored and observed for each and every child.
